Caring About My Community – That's My PSECU
Harrisburg, PA - To PSECU and their employees, caring about their community is more than a slogan on a T-shirt. During 2006, PSECU lent its support, both monetary and manpower, to numerous organizations throughout the Central Pennsylvania region. This support allows these organizations to fulfill their missions and help the communities they serve. Overall, PSECU employees and officials gave over 700 hours of time to charities and community organizations this past year.
Here is a brief snapshot of some of the organizations that PSECU assisted and events PSECU sponsored during 2006:
PSECU participated in various events for the Heart Association. They sponsored the Indiana County and Capital Region Heart Walk Kickoff, the Go Red for Women Luncheon for the Capital Region and Lancaster, and provided walkers for the Capital Region, State College, and Indiana County Heart Walks.
PSECU was a sponsor of the Art Association of Harrisburg's Bal Masque. Volunteers from PSECU helped set up and run the event.
For the past three years, PSECU has been a sponsor of the Jefferson Awards in the Susquehanna Valley. The Jefferson Awards recognize the efforts of those who have demonstrated a strong commitment to volunteerism in their community. PSECU volunteers were present at the event and helped run it.
PSECU was a sponsor of the Second Annual YWCA's Race Against Racism. Employees served on the planning committee and provided walkers and support for the event. In addition, other employees decorated special food booths that featured cuisine from different world cultures. PSECU also donated one of its "The More You Know" public service announcements to the YWCA to help publicize the race.
During the winter holiday season, PSECU organized an employee drive for families that were staying at the Interfaith Shelter. Employees "adopted" a family and fulfilled some of the requests on the residents' wish lists.
PSECU celebrated Credit Union Day by allowing nine employees to receive their normal pay for the day, but instead of reporting to the PSECU office, they spent their day assisting three of the organizations that PSECU supports throughout the year: The American Red Cross; The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank; and the Greater Harrisburg YWCA.
PSECU provided financial support for the Lupus Foundation's Lupus Loop. The Lupus Loop is a 5K walk/run to raise awareness of and funds for Lupus research. PSECU also had a number of employees participate in the race itself.
PSECU was again a sponsor of the PA CASA Children's Festival, a fun and free day of games and activities. The festival also raised public awareness of the difficulties faced by abused and neglected children in the court system. During the event, a number of PSECU volunteers manned a bowling game and prize tables intended to teach children the value of earning, spending and sharing their money.
Additionally, PSECU has an internal "Charity Committee." This committee raises money throughout the year as well as gathers supplies for different organizations. In 2006, employees raised over $3,700 through a number of fundraisers. They also gathered food, school supplies, household supplies, and personal care products. Every year during the holidays, PSECU employees adopt families at one of the local shelters. This year, they adopted over 52 people.
