On International Credit Union Day, PSECU Proves that Together We’re Better

Harrisburg, PA - Every October, PSECU traditionally celebrates International Credit Union Day with giveaways, balloons, a visiting cow and the WNNK 104 Boom Box. In addition to these fun events, this year they are making a new tradition based on something they did last year on Credit Union day.

Involvement in the community is part of the PSECU culture. That's why for the second consecutive Credit Union Day they will be sending PSECU employees into the community to show their appreciation for some of the many organizations that make the Capital Region a great place to live.

PSECU Senior Management is allowing nine employees to spend the day helping local non-profit organizations. The employees will receive their normal pay for the day – but instead of reporting to the PSECU headquarters, they will report to different locations. The nine employees will be assisting The American Red Cross, The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, and the Greater Harrisburg YWCA. Instead of their usual duties, the employees will be repacking food, painting rooms, assisting with telephone calls, organizing food and clothing banks, and any other type of assignment that comes their way.

According to Kathy Felker, Red Cross Interim Director, "The Red Cross appreciates PSECU and their employees for offering their services on Credit Union Day, as well as all the support that PSECU gives the Red Cross’s activities and the mission of encouraging disaster preparedness."

On why PSECU chose to allow employees to volunteer on company time, Barb Bowker, Vice President of Marketing says, "At PSECU, we believe it's essential to provide more than financial support for these organizations. It is our hope that in doing this we can show the communities we serve what our members already know - that PSECU is an active participant and truly cares about improving their quality of life."
