In March 2011, members of the PSECU Board as well as staff attended the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Governmental Affairs Conference. The annual conference brings together credit union leaders from all over the country to receive updates on credit union legislative priorities in Washington, D.C.
While in the nation's capital, the PSECU representatives also accompanied other Pennsylvania credit unions to visit members of Congress.
- Congressman Chaka Fattah (PA-2)
Greg Smith, PSECU President, and Nate Muniz, Public Relations Manager, joined a group of credit union representatives for a meeting with a staff person for Congressman Chaka Fattah. The discussion focused on the consumer impact of the Durbin interchange fee amendment as well as credit union financial literacy efforts in his district.
Congressman Fattah represents parts of Montgomery and Philadelphia counties.
- Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-4)
A group of credit union representatives, including Barb Bowker, Vice President of Marketing, visited with Congressman Altmire and his staff. During the meeting they asked the Congressman to support efforts to delay the Durbin interchange fee amendment as well as expand member business lending and supplemental capital for credit unions.
Congressman Altmire represents all of Beaver and Lawrence counties, and parts of Allegheny, Butler, Mercer and Westmoreland counties.
- Congressman Glenn Thompson (PA-5)
Nate Muniz, Public Relations Manager, and Jenn Jenkins, Lead Marketing Manager, visited Congressman Thompson to thank him for his support of credit union issues, including interchange fees.
Congressman Thompson represents Cameron, Center, Clarion, Clinton, Elk, Forest, Jefferson, McKean, Potter and Tioga Counties. He also represents parts of Clearfield, Crawford, Lycoming, Mifflin, Venango and Warren counties.
- Congressman Joe Pitts (PA-16)
PSECU Board Member Michael D. Ferster joined members of credit unions in the 16th District to meet with a staff person for Congressman Pitts. They discussed the negative impact of the Durbin interchange fee amendment as well as thanked the Congressman for his previous support of expanding member business lending for credit unions.
Congressman Pitts represents Lancaster County and parts of Chester and Berks counties.
- Congressman Bill Shuster (PA-9)
Greg Smith, PSECU President, and Nate Muniz, Public Relations Manager, accompanied a delegation from another credit union to visit a staff person for Congressman Bill Shuster. The delegation asked that the Congressman reconsider his position on interchange fees and support efforts to have the Federal Reserve delay its rule limiting interchange fees until it can study the issue further.
Congressman Shuster represents Bedford, Blair, Franklin, Fulton, Huntingdon and Juniata counties. He also represents parts of Cambria, Clearfield, Cumberland, Fayette, Indiana, Mifflin, Perry and Somerset counties.
- Congressman Mark Critz (PA-12)
Joining a group of credit unions located in the 12th district, Nate Muniz, Public Relations Manager, spoke with the Congressman regarding delaying implementation of the Durbin interchange amendment. Since that meeting, Congressman Critz has signed on as a co-sponsor of the bill that would delay implementation.
Congressman Critz represents Greene County and parts of Allegheny, Armstrong, Cambrian, Fayette, Indiana, Somerset, Washington and Westmoreland counties.
- Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz (PA-13)
Barb Bowker, Vice President of Marketing, joined a delegation of credit unions to discuss pending legislation with a member of Congresswoman Schwartz's staff. This included interchange fees, member business lending and supplemental capital for credit unions.
Congresswoman Schwartz represents parts of Montgomery and Philadelphia counties.
- Congressman Tim Holden (PA-17)
A group of PSECU representatives visited Congressman Holden's office to thank him for his continued support of credit union issues. Greg Smith, PSECU President, Barb Bowker, Vice President of Marketing, Jenn Jenkins, Lead Marketing Manager, and Nate Muniz, Public Relations Manager, discussed the impact of the proposed rule on the Durbin interchange amendment.
Congressman Holden represents all of Dauphin, Lebanon and Schuylkill counties, and parts of Berks and Perry counties.
- Congressman Todd Russell Platts (PA-19)
Barb Bowker, Vice President of Marketing and Jenn Jenkins, Lead Marketing Manager, met with Congressman Todd Platts and a member of his staff to discuss expanding member business lending for credit unions and delaying the Federal Reserve's rule to implement the Durbin interchange amendment.
Congressman Platts represents all of Adams, York, and part of Cumberland County.
