PSECU Is Ready

Written by Greg Smith on 6/16/2009

With the announcement by the World Health Organization (WHO) regarding the threat level posed by the H1N1 virus - commonly called the swine flu -, it seems a good time to talk about PSECU's preparedness plans. (The threat level is related only to the geographic spread of the virus. WHO's assessment is not based on how deadly it is. Read more in the press statement from the WHO's Director-General.)

I want you to know that PSECU is committed to making sure that our members will have access to their money in the event of a disaster or a health crisis such as a pandemic. Our regulators require us to be prepared, but even without their prompting, "Business Continuity Planning (BCP)" is something we would do.

BCP is a priority at PSECU, and we have staff dedicated to reviewing our plans on a regular basis. These plans include not only how we would perform essential business functions, but also how we would communicate to our members. Operationally, we have a redundant data center located about 100 miles from our headquarters in Harrisburg and can easily operate the credit union from that facility. We have disaster recovery plans which we test periodically and which are reviewed by our state and federal examiners each year.

We all hope we never have to put our plans into action. But if necessary, we're preparing to remain operational under difficult conditions. We will do our best to continue to serve you under any circumstances.
