About Greg

Philosophy
Greg passionately believes that a financial institution should exist to provide the means for people to better their lives. For more than three decades, Greg Smith has used that drive in the credit union world where the goal is to serve members, not corporate stockholders.

He also has a passion for technology and how it, too, can help people. At every credit union he has led, Greg has incorporated electronic tools as a means of improving efficiencies. In his experience, when a credit union increases its productivity, members benefit in two ways.

First, operating costs are reduced, allowing the credit union to give members better rates and lower fees. Second, when routine or labor-intensive processes are automated, credit union staff is freed up to give quality one-on-one attention when members need it.

In PSECU, Greg found a credit union receptive to his philosophy. Prior to his arrival, the credit union had already earned the reputation as being a technology leader. Services such as homebanking with psecu@home®, online deposits and transfers, mobile account management, paperless statements, and e-Alert text messages and e-mails were added under his leadership.

Professional Experience
Greg got his start as president of a $25 credit union in San Diego. Over the next five years, that credit union, Torrey Pines FCU, grew to about $7 million in assets. As challenges within the industry increased, he spent time working and developing larger credit unions across the country. In addition to Torrey Pines FCU, he has served as VP of Finance at WesCorp FCU, Orange County FCU, Teachers FCU in Minneapolis, and Michigan State University EFCU. Greg has been President and CEO of PSECU since 1991.

Currently, he is a member of the Harrisburg Chapter Vistage (a CEO group), and also serves on several industry advisory boards.

Greg’s passion for the credit union difference, his love of technology, and his industry-leading knowledge of financial markets make him a uniquely qualified leader. PSECU members are fortunate to have him as the steward of their credit union.
