PSECU Brings Home Capital Region Heart Walk Award

HARRISBURG, PA - December 8, 2008 - At a recent event PSECU was named the winner of the Financial Institution Challenge by the American Heart Association for its support of the 2008 Capital Region Start! Heart Walk. PSECU was also the Presenting Sponsor of this year's event, which was held at Harrisburg Area Community College.

The award is given to the financial institution that raises the most money for the Heart Walk. At this year's event, PSECU provided over 65 walkers and volunteers and raised $5,830.50 to support life-saving research to decrease the effects of heart disease and stroke.

The success of PSECU's fundraising was due in part to a challenge issued to the Marketing Department by Vice President Barbara J. Bowker. She offered a challenge to match the donations raised by her employees up to a certain level and also added the incentive of homemade apple pies. "Heart disease and stroke affect PSECU as an employer, but the Heart Association's mission is also very personal to me," noted Ms. Bowker. "I've made a conscious effort to live a heart healthy lifestyle and thought this would be a fun way to encourage others to do so. This award would not have been possible without the hard work of all of our employees and volunteers."
