Harrisburg, PA (February 3, 2020) – The Credit Union National Association (CUNA) recently announced that Pennsylvania native and credit union advocate Margaret Delmonico is one of just four finalists for its nationwide CU Hero of the Year award, which honors credit union leaders who demonstrate a commitment to the longstanding “people helping people” credit union philosophy. The 2020 award winner will be selected by popular vote, which remains open until March 20.
Delmonico, a resident of Mechanicsburg, served PSECU, Pennsylvania’s anytime, anywhere digital credit union, and its more than 450,000 members for 40+ years before retiring as its Director of Public Relations with the close of 2019.
“It is such an honor to be named a finalist for this prestigious recognition,” Delmonico said. “I started working for PSECU at a very young age and quickly found my passion in the credit union movement. Over the past 41 years, the credit union ‘people helping people’ philosophy has granted me great personal and professional fulfillment. Knowing that I could play a small role in assisting our members and communities to succeed and thrive was the main motivation throughout my career and kept me going each day.”
During her more than 40-year tenure with PSECU, Delmonico contributed to many aspects of the credit union’s operations. She began her career helping PSECU members directly with their financial accounts as a member service representative. She later assumed a supervisory role managing staff and the delivery of quality member services in the credit union’s loans area. Next, Delmonico moved on to Marketing where she began building mutually beneficial Select Employee Group (SEG) relationships with Pennsylvania-based employers, as well as bonds with university and community groups inside and outside PSECU’s field of membership.
Prior to her retirement, Delmonico served as PSECU’s Director of Public Relations. In this role, she oversaw the credit union’s community involvement and outreach, including its corporate communications, financial education programming, and corporate social responsibility efforts. This position called for the highest ethical standards, professional excellence, and the embodiment of shared credit union values and principles.
Both through her positions with PSECU and in her free time, Delmonico has been active in the community. She has served on the Boards of Directors of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, Leadership Harrisburg Area, the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association Foundation, and the Art Association of Harrisburg. Additionally, she has done committee work for the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet and the Harrisburg Rotary and also taught children’s theater for the Harrisburg Community Theater. She is also an involved member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish in Mechanicsburg.
Delmonico earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theater and Speech Communications from DeSales University (formerly Allentown College of Saint Francis DeSales) and holds a Master of Science in Communication/Journalism from Shippensburg University.
“Margaret Delmonico is truly an unsung hero of the credit union movement. Not only has she dedicated her career to PSECU and our members, but she has also worked tirelessly to help make our communities stronger, healthier, and more vibrant,” said PSECU President and CEO George Rudolph. “Join me in showing thanks to Margaret for all she’s done for others by visiting news.cuna.org/cuhero and voting to name her the 2020 CU Hero of the Year!”
