Harrisburg, PA (September 16, 2019) - On September 18, PSECU - Pennsylvania’s anytime, anywhere digital credit union - will unveil its newly renovated Financial Education Center (FEC) at Shippensburg University. Open to the campus community, the event will begin at 11 a.m. and include remarks from both PSECU and Shippensburg University leadership, a ceremonial ribbon cutting, facility tours, and an interactive financial education-focused celebration.
“As part of our commitment to serving as a trusted financial partner in the community, we provide valuable money management resources including those for younger adults who are gaining the real-world financial experience that lays the groundwork for their future success,” said PSECU President George Rudolph. “That’s why our Financial Education Centers on college and university campuses around the state are so important. It’s also why we’re investing in the remodel of the Shippensburg University center to ensure the location remains as effective as possible in offering financial education and learning opportunities to those who can really benefit.”
Following 14 years of operation, PSECU began the Shippensburg University FEC renovation project in early July. Enhancements to the site will include a new design that encourages a more user-friendly experience and incorporates innovative technologies to provide better service to visitors. The FEC’s branding and look will also be updated and modernized to align with PSECU’s current style. Thanks to the remodel, the FEC is also now brighter and more inviting.
"Shippensburg University is thankful for PSECU’s commitment to serving our students,” said Shippensburg University Media Relations Manager Megan Silverstrim. “This commitment is evident in their eagerness to improve accessibility through this remodel project. We share a mutual goal of student success and we are honored to continue what has been a great 14-year relationship.”
One of 24 total PSECU FECs, the Shippensburg University location provides financial services assistance to the institution’s campus community members – students, faculty, staff, and alumni – all of whom are eligible for membership in the credit union. Additionally, it provides internship opportunities for students looking to gain real-world experience in areas such as marketing and business operations and serves as a place to hold financial education workshops for those interested in learning more about managing their finances. Since opening in 2005, PSECU has employed 84 paid student interns at the Shippensburg University FEC.
Completion of the Shippensburg University FEC remodel marks the eighth in a series of similar projects PSECU has coordinated on other college and university campuses across the Commonwealth. Previous remodels where conducted at Bloomsburg University, California University of Pennsylvania, Elizabethtown College, the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Kutztown University, Lock Haven University, and Millersville University.
Opened in 1934, PSECU was founded by 22 ordinary people who pooled $90 and made an extraordinary commitment to each other: To create a financial institution where collective resources benefit all members.
