Harrisburg, PA (February 10, 2020) – PSECU proudly sponsored the 13th annual Pink Zone game, an event which aims to raise awareness, funds, and support for breast cancer research and empower its survivors. Marking its fifth consecutive year of support, the credit union again contributed $3,000 to the cause. This year’s Pink Zone took place at the Penn State women’s basketball game on February 9.
“In addition to offering high-quality financial products and services, PSECU also strives to be a steadfast community partner that helps make our communities healthier, stronger, and more vibrant for everyone to enjoy. It’s part of the ‘people helping people’ credit union philosophy that we aim to follow in all we do,” said PSECU President and CEO George Rudolph. “Pink Zone has been a great partner in that effort, and on behalf of our membership, we are excited to once again support this meaningful and worthwhile cause.”
During halftime at the Penn State Lady Lion’s basketball game, breast cancer survivors were honored on court where they displayed their survivorship - the length of time since their diagnosis – on unique survivorship cards. Their cumulative survivorship totaled 3,687 years, 8 months, and 7 days.
Friends and family of survivors were also given cards to personalize messages of encouragement for those they support.
Funds raised by Pink Zone’s year-round efforts are distributed to beneficiaries that provide breast cancer education, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Last year’s beneficiaries included Mount Nittany Health, The Penn State Cancer Institute, PA Breast Cancer Coalition, Kay Yow Cancer Fund, Penn Highlands-Huntingdon (formerly the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital), and Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital. Visit papinkzone.org to learn more.
“It’s truly inspiring to see breast cancer survivors come together in a sea of pink on the court of the Bryce Jordan Center during halftime, and even more so to hear the cheers of joy ring out when the total Pink Zone survivorship length is announced,” said Wyatt Troxell, PSECU’s State College Regional Director. “PSECU is honored to be a part of this powerful reminder of why ongoing breast cancer research, education, diagnosis, and treatment is so important.”
PSECU also rebranded some of its existing assets in the venue to help enhance the event experience. Specifically, the ribbon in the arena of the Bryce Jordan Center was modified to include both PSECU and Pink Zone together and was displayed throughout the course of the game. Additionally, a PSECU-Pink Zone co-branded selfie booth was made available for guests to commemorate the occasion.
PSECU also supports breast cancer initiatives through an annual sponsorship of the PA Breast Cancer Coalition Conference.
