Are you enrolling at Millersville University? You are joining a school with a storied past. Its roots trace back more than 150 years, and since then, Millersville has produced many fine teachers, politicians, physicians, and other professionals, including a few NFL players.

As a college student, you likely have limited funds. You want to find fun things to do on the weeknights and weekends, but you don’t want to spend a lot of money. We can help you out.

We’ve compiled this list of fun and affordable activities just for Millersville University students. From watching football games to heading into nearby Lancaster for the day, you have plenty of options.

1. Root, Root, Root for the Home Team

Millersville is an NCAA Division II school and a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletics Conference (PSAC). Like most PSAC schools, it has a few standout sports students love to support. One big one for the Marauders is football. Each Saturday when there’s a home game, Biemesderfer Stadium fills with students looking to show their school spirit. Decked out in black and gold, they cheer their hearts out for the squad.

You can get in to games for free as a student — always a perk. You will also develop the sort of school spirit that will help you bond with your fellow Marauders.

2. Zoom off to Lancaster

Millersville University is located in Millersville, PA, just a stone’s throw from Lancaster. Many students take advantage of this proximity by heading into Lancaster on the weekends to experience all there is to see.

Do you enjoy shopping? The Tanger outlets are located on Route 743. Are you interested in seeing how an authentic Amish farm works? Verdant View offers daily tours. Want to know how the Amish experience a road trip? Take an Amish buggy ride.

No matter what you decide to do in Lancaster, your visit is not complete without a trip to a smorgasbord. These extensive buffets offer hot and cold entrees and side dishes, plus desserts and drinks galore. For college students trying to stretch a buck, a smorgasbord is a great deal.

3. Enjoy First Friday in Lancaster

Each month, the city celebrates First Friday, an event where many stores offer food and specials to entice you in to shop. You don’t have to buy anything, though. You can simply walk around and enjoy an appetizer. Peruse art and look at shops you may have earlier walked right past without thinking about, and talk to shop owners who absolutely love the community.

4. Visit the Sweetest Place on Earth

Millersville is just a 45-minute drive from Hersheypark! With their one price admission, college students can enjoy more than 70 attractions, 14 coasters, in-park entertainment, an entire water park, and ZooAmerica. Outside the park gates, take the Hershey’s Chocolate World tour, a short ride that shows you how chocolate is made. On the ride, you’ll get a kick out of their singing cows. Afterward, you’ll get another nice perk – a free piece of candy.

5. Head to SMC

The Student Memorial Center, also referred to as SMC or SMACK, has a constantly rotating variety of student activities. One weekend, you may see a Zumba-thon to raise money for charity. The next, you could encounter students rock climbing. Still another favorite pastime is playing racquetball at the fitness studio or taking an exercise class. Try to get the schedule of upcoming events so you know when your favorite activities are taking place.

6. Head to the Pond

The iconic pond at the center of campus has become a touchpoint for virtually every student who attends Millersville. Swans live on the pond, and Millersville students love to observe them as these graceful waterfowl glide through the water. The pond makes a great place to study for a test or commune with nature.

7. Play an Intramural Sport

Intramural sports offer people of all skill levels a way to compete and have fun while also blowing off steam from class. You can play a sport you participated in during high school or try something entirely new that will challenge you to learn new skills. This is also a fantastic way to meet new people at your school as you all chase a common goal.

8. Eat at the Sugar Bowl

When you’ve been on campus longer than five minutes, you’ll hear someone mention the Sugar Bowl. This restaurant located right off campus claims to make the best strombolis in the world. You can be the judge of that. Be sure to order a milkshake to go with your meal, too. In fact, order two of them and bring the second back to campus for your roommate.

We hope you get some ideas of what to do in and around Millersville, PA, from this guide. As you get to know the campus and meet new people, you’ll surely add many fun pursuits to this list.
