PSECU Provides Financial Literacy Component for PA GEAR UP-3 Grant
Harrisburg, PA - May 9, 2015 - PSECU will provide the financial literacy component for the PA GEAR UP-3 grant awarded to Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education (State System). GEAR UP stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs. This grant-funded program provides free college access and success services to 2,838 students in the Allentown, Harrisburg, Norristown, and Lancaster school districts beginning in seventh grade and continuing through the first year of college enrollment.
PSECU has committed to participating in this program throughout the seven-year grant cycle. "We believe making a long-term commitment to the GEAR UP program is very important, as financial literacy is an ongoing learning process. Working with this group of students and their families throughout the seven-year grant cycle will allow us to provide them with the most meaningful and impactful resources possible," says Barb Bowker, PSECU's Vice President of Marketing.
Each school year, PSECU will create a customized age-appropriate financial literacy curriculum and train GEAR UP program staff to use it with students in the four regions. Additionally, representatives from the credit union will lead financial literacy workshops for parents and families in the Harrisburg region, while providing the materials necessary for program staff to conduct these workshops in the additional geographic regions.
Opened in 1934, PSECU was founded by 22 ordinary people who made an extraordinary commitment to each other: To create a financial institution where pooled resources benefit all members. Today, we are a full-service credit union serving more than 400,000 members and have over $4 billion in assets. As a not-for-profit financial institution, our goal remains to help our members and their families achieve a better life.
