PSECU’s Free Credit Score Service

Written by PSECU | Sep 1, 2023 4:45:00 AM

Your credit score is a key aspect of your financial life, most noticeably impacting your ability to borrow money for large purchases, such as a home or car. The impact of your credit score, however, extends far beyond these lending decisions, sometimes being used as a determining factor in being approved for renting an apartment, setting up utilities without a deposit, getting the best car insurance rate, or even being hired for some jobs.

With all of these companies checking your credit, it’s important that you monitor your own credit, as well. So, how can you do this? If you’re a PSECU member with a checking account or loan, we offer qualifying members a free credit score service*. This free membership benefit reports monthly credit scores, helping members keep a pulse on their credit.

Who Can Use PSECU’s Free Credit Score Service?

PSECU members with a checking account or a loan can enroll in our free credit score service. The primary owner of the account must be 18 years of age or older.

How Does PSECU’s Free Credit Score Service Work?

Once enrolled in our free credit score service, you’ll receive monthly updates to your score. You can sign up for an account alert that will notify you when your updated score is available. Notification choices include email, text, or push notification.

When your credit score is updated each month, you can view it in online and mobile banking.

  • Open the menu at the upper left corner by clicking or tapping it, then select FICO to see a list of your credit scores over the previous 12 months.

  • To see FAQs about FICO scores within online banking, just scroll down and you’ll see them below the score graph. In mobile, tap the icon in the upper right to see FAQs about FICO scores.

Does Using PSECU’s Free Credit Score Service Hurt My Credit?

You may have heard that inquiries into your credit can impact your credit score. While this is correct, there are exceptions, such as when you’re checking your own credit. Checking your own credit is considered a soft inquiry and does not negatively impact your credit score.

How Do I Sign Up for PSECU’s Free Credit Score Service?

Eligible members can sign up for our free credit score service in online and mobile banking.

  • In mobile banking, tap the menu in the upper left corner, then tap FICO®, and follow the prompts.
