5 Fall Daytrips for Picturesque Fun in Pennsylvania

Written by PSECU | Oct 5, 2022 12:00:00 PM

Looking for some daytrip adventures in Pennsylvania this fall? We’ve gathered a list of activities that are fun for everyone, from a single person to the whole family.

1. Hot Air Balloon Flights

Pennsylvania offers some beautiful fall foliage views and one of the best ways to take them all in is in a hot air balloon. Numerous companies across the state – like AirVentures in Chester County – offer hot air balloon rides for individuals, couples, or families. Rides are typically around an hour, and you’ll be able to see for miles. Guides can offer local tips and point out nearby landmarks where you can round out the day with a fall picnic.

2. New Hope & Ivyland Railroad

If you’re not a fan of heights, take a fall foliage tour by train on the New Hope & Ivyland Railroad.  A train ride is fun for younger kids to experience, while parents can take in the sights along the way. The fall excursion takes a tour through Bucks County, and a narrator will highlight interesting historical facts and cultural locations along the way.

3. National Apple Harvest Festival

Many small towns offer fall festivals, and the National Apple Harvest Festival is one you won’t want to miss. Located in Biglerville, Pennsylvania, the festival runs for two full weekends, giving you plenty of time to check out everything they have to offer. The whole family will enjoy orchard tours, pony rides, steam engine displays, live music, and more. While you’re there, be sure to take in all the apple treats from local purveyors and bring home a bushel or two of apples to whip up your own recipes.

4. Ole Covered Wagon Tours

The Pennsylvania Grand Canyon is worth the trip year-round but is especially fun in the fall. Ole Covered Wagon Tours takes you on an old-fashioned covered wagon tour through the canyon. Guides will offer a history lesson while you take in the fall foliage and picturesque views. You might want to consider coming back in the spring or summer for their waterfall tour where you can stop for a short walk to the water.

5. Fort Ligonier & Idlewild

History buffs will love a visit to historic Fort Ligonier. You can explore the fort and watch live reenactments by actors, then visit the galleries throughout the museum. If you’re looking to extend your day, head to Idlewild after your visit for some amusement park fun. Only three miles away, Idlewild offers rides and attractions that the whole family will enjoy.
